The original 2017 article linked changes in landholding to Bunts entering business, education and other professions. It did not provide research showing how those changes affected different families, tenants or workers. Its claim that the community as a whole prospered after reform should therefore not be treated as an established finding.
The law and its date
India Code records the Karnataka Land Reforms Act, 1961 as Act 10 of 1962, enacted on 5 March 1962 and brought into force on 2 October 1965. The year in the title is not its commencement date. The Act has been amended over time; the official record is the appropriate starting point for checking the legislation.
